More about Gareth…

What do you enjoy most about your subject?

Working with young people and professional musicians in and out of the classroom and enabling people to achieve more than they first thought was possible.

What do you enjoy most about life at Dauntsey’s?

The food!!

On a slightly more serious note, Dauntsey's is a fantastic place to work. The School provides many opportunities to experience new activities in a wide range of situations. Learning occurs in a manner that encourages us all to take risks within a safe and caring environment and we work as a team to achieve our absolute best.

How do you spend your holidays/time out of school?

I spend time conducting an orchestra and also enjoy fly fishing and cycling.

Your favourite place on earth and why?

My home, because that is where my family is and they are the most important things in my life.

Who do you most admire in public life and why?

Sir Simon Rattle, the Conductor.

If you could have a “superpower”, what would it be and why?

The power to be in two places at once.

Which book is top of your pile right now?

The score of Sibelius's Second Symphony

Anything else you would particularly like to highlight?

I love my job because making music feeds the mind and the soul. Music enables us to say things in a way that words cannot express. Music challenges us, puts us in touch with our emotions and the feelings of others. It opens doors to other disciplines and enables us to spend a lifetime learning and sharing.
