Academic overview

At Dauntsey's we are proud of our academic reputation and long tradition of university and examination success.  Results for 2011 show that 84.5% of A*/A/B grades were awarded at A Level. With 100 A* grades awarded. and over 65% of all subjects examined at GCSE were awarded A or A* grades. The academic life of the school is vibrant, challenging and progressive, and the broad, balanced, curriculum offers opportunities for all pupils to enjoy their lessons in a stimulating, dynamic environment.

The school aims to deliver teaching which is modern, inspiring, and varied, with widespread use of ICT supporting the pupils' learning experience. Independent learning is a feature of the curriculum and differentiated teaching programmes aim to foster intellectual curiosity and creativity in our pupils.

The flexible timetable, with no set option columns, allows pupils freedom of choice to study a wide range of courses for both GCSE and A-level. The Sixth Form schedule is supported by a flourishing general studies programme, as well as an Extended Essay Competition, Head Master's Essay Society and a series of Mercers' Lectures.

Academic work for all pupils is enriched and broadened through many clubs and societies and the school ensures that gifted and talented pupils have access to work and experiences at the higher cognitive levels in order to stimulate interest and develop advanced thinking skills. In addition, pupils with mild learning difficulties receive expert help and support from a dedicated team of specialist teachers.

There is no doubt that teaching and learning is the core business of the School, but staff work hard to ensure that pupils experience a healthy balance between work and leisure activities, enabling the boys and girls to thoroughly enjoy their time at Dauntsey's.
