DEAMS

Dauntsey's Expedition and Mountaineering Society (DEAMS)

DEAMS was founded in 2003.  Since then DEAMS has successfully completed many expeditions within the UK, Europe, Africa and Asia for both Upper School and Lower School pupils.

DEAMS has forged a link with the Nightingales Children's Project in Cernavoda, Romania. The first group of Dauntseians undertook voluntary work with the children at Nightingales and within the local community in Cernavoda in the summer of 2007. Teams of pupils and staff have run holiday activities (sports, games, music, theatre and dance) for the children every year since.

Following the success of the first ever school expedition to Bhutan in December 2005, two further expeditions to the Kingdom took place December 2009 and December 2013.

A sense of perspective

“ We learned how incredibly lucky we are and how much we have. Bhutan has an index of Gross National Happiness. The people may not have many material possessions but they have a lot to teach us about making the best of what we have. ”

— Sophie Badman, Upper Sixth pupil & member of Bhutan expedition 2013
