Chemistry is a popular and successful subject at Dauntsey's with about 45 pupils (four sets) taking the subject in the Lower Sixth and 35 in the Upper Sixth (three sets), making chemistry the third largest A-level subject. Over the last five years, 75% of pupils gained grade A*/A/B at A-level and 70% gained grade A/B at AS level.
At GCSE, two-thirds of our pupils now opt to study separate GCSEs in chemistry, physics and biology. In the last five years 73% of pupils have achieved A/A* in GCSE chemistry. The remaining pupils take science and additional science, although they are still taught the three sciences separately.
The Chemistry Department currently has five full-time members of teaching staff and two technicians who job-share. There are four laboratories.
