Chemistry

Chemistry is a popular and successful subject at Dauntsey's with about 45 students (four sets) taking the subject in the Lower Sixth and 35 in the Upper Sixth (three sets), making Chemistry the third largest A-level subject. Over the last five years, 75% of students gained grade A*/A/B at A Level and 70% gained grade A/B at AS.

At GCSE, two thirds of our pupils now opt to study separate GCSEs in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. In the last five years 73% of candidates have achieved A/A* in GCSE Chemistry. The remaining students take Science and Additional Science, although they are still taught the three sciences separately.

The Department currently has five full-time members of teaching staff and two technicians who job-share. There are four laboratories. Two of the laboratories were new in 2004 and the remaining two laboratories are being rebuilt for opening in August 2011.
