Entry at 11

For candidates wishing to enter into the First Form /Year 7, examinations and interviews take place in mid January of the year of entry. 

Application procedure

Please download and complete the Registration Form and return together with the £100 registration fee, to the Admissions Office.  We recommend that prospective pupils register by October of the year preceding entry. All registered candidates are invited to the Entrance Examinations.

11+ Examination

Candidates sit papers in English (comprehension and composition) and Maths and take a verbal reasoning (multiple choice) test.  Please see the link to Entrance Examination Guidelines for further details. Sample papers are also available on request from the Admissions Office.

11+ Interview

All prospective pupils are interviewed in the same week as the examination. Those travelling long distances are welcome to request an interview on the same day as the examination. All others are invited to come for interview later in the same week as the examination - Thursday or Friday.

Interviews are with two members of the academic staff and last approximately 20 minutes. Candidates are asked to bring with them something of which they are particularly proud (this is merely an "ice breaker" and not a test!) as well as their school Maths and English exercise books.

Academic Scholarships, Music and Sport Awards

All candidates are considered for an academic scholarship on the basis of the entrance examination and interview - more details. 

Scholarships and Awards carry remission of a maximum of 10% of the School fees.Those wishing to be considered for a Music or Sport Award are invited to  complete and return the relevant form which is sent to all registered candidates by 1 December. 

Head Master's Awards

These are discretionary and are  offered on the basis of the entrance exam and interview.  They may be awarded on the basis of artistic talent, all round ability or in recognition of someone who will make a valuable contribution to the boarding community.

Overseas candidates

Candidates living overseas may sit the Entrance Examination in January either at their own school or at British Council offices and should contact the Admissions Department  to make the necessary arrangements. Interviews are by arrangement, either in person or via Skype.
