International Applicants 11+
Fluency in English
In order to cope with both the academic and social demands of being at Dauntsey's, candidates whose first language is not English should have good spoken and written English. Ability in written English is tested as part of the entrance selection process and guidelines are given below. In addition, each candidate will be interviewed by an appropriate senior member of the academic staff who will assess their spoken English.
Guidelines for admissions and ability levels in English - First Form, 11+ (Year 7)
Pupils must have a good standard of English, evidenced through taking our own English as an Additional Language (EAL) exam (together with a Maths exam) either at Dauntsey's in January of the year of entry or at the offices of one of our recognised agents. There will also be an interview with a senior member of staff. Offers of places are made at the end of January and parents are asked to pay a deposit to secure the place. If places remain after this process, we will test and interview applicants by arrangement.
At all stages of entry it is advisable to apply at the correct time in order to maximise the chance of success. Waiting lists operate at all three points of entry to the School.
At all stages pupils receive the appropriate level of individual support from experienced EAL teaching staff. Sixth Form pupils are prepared for the IELTS examination, where level 7 is required for entrance to top UK universities.
