Sport at Dauntsey's
Dauntsey's provides a wide variety of sporting and adventurous pursuits, and regularly produces first-class teams in all sports. Hockey, netball, athletics and tennis are the main team sports for girls and rugby, cricket and hockey are the main team sports for boys. Additionally, boys can also be selected for school basketball, football, athletics and tennis teams.
All pupils have the opportunity to participate in athletics, swimming, squash, golf, tennis, soccer, basketball and water polo, as well as individual activities, such as show jumping, weight training, sub-aqua, and aerobics.
The School has excellent facilities including two AstroTurf pitches, a goal-keeping training facility, a heated indoor swimming pool, squash, tennis and netball courts, and a full-sized sports hall.
Dauntsey's has almost 150 acres of grounds, so hockey, rugby and cricket pitches abound and are complemented by tennis courts (both lawn and hard), netball and squash courts. Those wishing to indulge in a more sedate activity can take advantage of the seven-hole golf course or use the croquet lawn.
To experience new cultures and challenge fresh opposition, Dauntsey's sporting teams often tour foreign countries: Australia, South America, South Africa, Barbados and New Zealand are all recent destinations.
Our pupils are no strangers to county and national success. Pupils have achieved positions in representative teams for their respective sports. An increasing number of pupils have been selected to play for the county in rugby, cricket, hockey and athletics, and a few have also gained placements at national level and as members of West of England teams for their age group. International success has been achieved by pupils in hockey, fencing, rowing, cycling and athletics. The Cricket 1st XI compete in the Peak Schools Bath and District League and the 20s Cup, whilst the Rugby 1st XV competes in the Daily Mail U18 Cup competition. Equestrian pursuits are a small-scale but highly successful optional sport at Dauntsey's.
