Mr W J Corke
Summer & Autumn only |
The Beekeeping Club meets once a week after school during the Summer and Autumn terms. The club maintains two hives at the Manor apiary which has been established for over 25 years. The students assist with the routine maintenance of the colonies and take part in the extraction, bottling and sale of any honey that is produced. The club is at present self-financing having enjoyed some good honey crops in past years. The hives are shut down for the winter by November and the club activities then include wax extraction, beeswax candle and polish making. It is intended that interested students get a taste of the craft and a basic grounding in the necessary skills. |
The Book Group
(Sixth Form)
L6 & U6
Meetings as published
Mr A J F Brown |
The Book Group was established in 2004 by an enthusiastic Sixth Former who wanted to study a range of books that fell outside the bounds of her English syllabus. Meetings usually take place in the evenings and are relaxed, informal affairs in which pupils and staff discuss the chosen text in an open manner. The group generally meets twice a term to discuss a variety of texts such as We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver and As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner.
