Autumn & Spring only

Presided over by Mr Yates and with an elected secretary (Austin Miller for 2007/8) two speakers argue for and against a predetermined motion which is then opened for all members to speak. This culminates in a vote. The Society has only one rule and that is that speeches and contributions from the 'floor' should not be gratuitously offensive and abusive to other members. Lower School Centre

Mr J A Spencer

The purpose of the Society is to promote awareness of the issues that matter to the Lower School. It exists to empower students so that they make informed decisions and that they draw conclusions based on substantiated, reasoned and valid argument. Rhetoric is important and the Society wishes to use it by meeting once a fortnight during preparation. The speakers are drawn from the Lower School and the topics considered for debate are suggested by the members of the Lower School too. The Society is run by students for students in order to assist the development of an informed and aware community.
