Dauntsey's Expedition and Mountaineering Society:

DAUNTSEY’S EXPEDITION AND MOUNTAINEERING SOCIETY (DEAMS)

DEAMS was founded in 2003. At the inaugural meeting Dave Pearce gave an awe-inspiring account of his ascent of Everest in May 2003 with the RN/RM North East Ridge Expedition. Since then DEAMS has successfully completed 11 expeditions and Dave himself has joined us on three as leader. Rob Pitt, of ‘ia-coaching’, is our professionally qualified instructor and consultant; other instructors/leaders are employed as required.

The aim of the Society is to organise expeditions for all age groups at home and abroad. Pupils volunteer to join an expedition and are introduced to the skills and knowledge required and to gain an understanding and appreciation of the environment and ecology of the area.

Future:

  1. Plans are at an advanced stage for an expedition to Corsica to walk the classic   GR20  in August 2008. Another Junior Expedition to Morocco will take place in October 2008.
  2. DEAMS is actively engaged in forging a link with the Nightingales Children's Project  in Romania. The first group of Dauntseians undertook voluntary work with the children in Cernavoda in the summer of 2007, and it is envisaged that Dauntseians will run holiday activities every summer at Nightingales from now on.
  3. Following the success of the first ever school expedition to Bhutan in December 2005, there is every possibilty of a further expedition to the Kingdom in 2009. Watch this space!
