Miss J Gay

The Dance Club will give all members a good introduction to various techniques and styles of dance. Each session will begin with a body conditioning warm up, as well as basic techniques and the grounding for modern and jazz dance will be taught. The second half of the session will then involve perfecting a routine which will incorporate the new techniques learned. The dancers will also be given the opportunity to study different coreographers and their different styles.

Mr L Bjork

Summer term only

At Dauntsey’s pupils follow the PADI training regime to allow them to gain the Open Water Diver Qualification.  This is carried out in the Summer term over four Sundays. Training starts at 9:00am and finishes at 6:00pm and it costs £250 to become a member.  This fee covers all training, including instructors, equipment and PADI's certification fee. A PADI qualification is one of the most popular diving qualifications in the world and will enable pupils to dive with another qualified diver.  It is also a recognised achievement by Universities.  Open Water divers are restricted to a maximum depth of 18 metres. The Sub Aqua Club has organised diving trips in the past to the Red Sea in Egypt.

Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race

Tue, Thu, Sat afternoons

Mr P J Thomas

Spring term only

Paddled each Easter weekend, this 125 mile canoe race draws competitors from many walks of life, either pupils of schools or private competitors from around the world. Lower Sixth pupils, who paddle as pairs, train through the Spring term every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoon.  Though riddled with blisters, freezing conditions, tears and frustration, the water to Westminster is, for many pupils a highlight of their School careers and a memory to cherish. Pupils undertake ‘DW’ as their sports option for the Spring term and places are limited to the number of canoes and mini bus space available.  The School usually enters a total of eight boats in the race.

The DofE Awards is a nationally organised scheme of activities for young people involving an expedition in teams of 4-7, physical recreation, learning a skill (hobby) and giving service to the community.  The School offers the award at two levels; namely Bronze (14+), and Gold (16+). DofE expedition training/assessment weekends take place in South Wales, Mid-Wales, New Forest, Dartmoor, Marlborough Downs and the Isle of Purbeck.  There is a registration fee which can be charged to school fees account, and there is a fee attached to cover the cost of training for the expeditions. Some specialist kit is provided but pupils are required to provide their own walking boots, water proofs, and sleeping bags.
