6th Form trip to Iceland, October/November 2007

Geography Fieldtrip to Iceland

31 U6th students and 3 staff spent 5 days in Iceland, the "land of ice and fire". Two nights were spent in Reykjavik, one in a luxurious 4-star hotel on the south coast and one night at a very comfortable farm guesthouse. The weather was very mixed and so sadly we were unable to skidoo on one of the glaciers but we still enjoyed a fantastic week of physical and human geography experiences. The group were great fun to be with and they had a memorable trip. Plans are in place for a 7th visit in 2008!

Lower 6th Fieldwork

A full day study of the Urban Structure of Salisbury takes place in the Spring Term.
A study of downstream changes on the River Bottle happens in the AutumnTerm.
Both of these trips are hypothesis testing exercises during which techniques in sampling, collecting, presenting and analysing data are taught. This supports the students' preparation for the Unit 3 examination, Applied Geographical Skills.

Upper 6th Fieldwork

A 5 day trip to Iceland during the Autumn Term.
A Study Day in London in the Spring Term.
Optional trips on Sundays led by departmental staff.
