Evan's House

Evans House was opened ten years ago as a rapidly expanding Jeanne House burst at the seams. Having established as a foreign body in what was effectively the 'west wing' of Jeanne it has now emerged, resplendently, on the old netball courts as a purpose built house for 60 young women. The accommodation of 36 single rooms and 12 double rooms is of the highest quality, with en-suite shower and toilet facilities in each room. A communal kitchen, a kitchenette, spacious common rooms, foyer and outdoor patio area comprise the social areas. However, as in all the boarding houses, it is the quality of the pastoral care rather than the fixtures and fittings that provoke most comment from students and parents. Four resident staff with, at the last count, seven of their own young children add enormously to the domestic atmosphere that never replicates home life but offers a unique and extraordinarily rich environment for development. Needless to say this developmental process iincorporates a large number of events organised for, and by, the girls throughout the year including a Christmas dinner, bowling trips and shopping trips not to mention informal barbecues and parties in the summer term. All that and academic guidance and 'ad hoc' revision sessions as well!
