The Tall Ships Race 2002

Jolie Brise was declared
'Overall Winner of the Tall Ships 2002 Race'

Jolie Brise left Southampton at the beginning of May, sailing down to the Mediterranean.   Once again visiting the Lobato family whilst in Lisbon.     Then cruising in the Mediterranean around the Balearics before again competing in the Cutty Sark Tall Ships Races.

Race Leg 1: Alicante to Malaga – this was raced in predominantly light headwinds which very much suit Jolie Brise with her tremendous performance in light airs.   The crew from Dauntsey’s came first in class and first in fleet.

Race Leg 2: Malaga to La Coruna – a mixture of conditions but due to really hard work by the crew once again came first in class and first in fleet.

Race Leg 3: Santander to Portsmouth – this was a considerably tougher race due to extreme conditions in the Bay of Biscay, all but one other of the fourteen vessels in Jolie Brise’s class retired due to fatigue or damage.

In this race she finished first in class and second in fleet, once again being overall winner of Tall Ships 2002
