PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND GAMES

A brief description of the course followed in Years 7 and 8.

Year 7:

All pupils have two timetabled P.E. lessons during the week.  Foundation Courses in The Exercise Challenge, Gymnastics, Minor Games, and Indoor Athletics are taught during the year.  Many pupils come to Dauntsey’s varying greatly in their knowledge and we feel it is important to give a good grounding in the basic principles of activities.  During swimming lessons it is our first priority that all pupils should be able to swim competently and confidently.  To this end special classes are compulsory for non-swimmers until they can satisfy the Physical Education staff that they can swim properly.  All pupils are taught the techniques of the three major strokes.

Year 8:

Pupils have two timetabled periods per week.  Courses taught include: Gymnastics, Ball Skills, Basketball, Volleyball, Badminton, Athletics and Minor Games.  In Swimming, the development of competence and stamina in the major strokes, an introduction to Diving and the development of Personal Survival Skills form the major part of our teaching.

Games Programme

All pupils have two games sessions during the week plus a third on a Saturday afternoon.

There is a full range of fixtures against other schools and a comprehensive range of Inter-House Competitions.
