Music

A brief description of the course followed in Year 9.

Class Music lessons in Form 3 generally adopt a creative and practical approach in order that pupils can learn about the subject through direct experience.

Classroom activities include composition projects (based on topics such as African Drumming or serial techniques), jazz style improvisation, performing on instruments in chamber sized ensembles or as a class “orchestra”, listening to music and singing.

Individual tuition is available for the voice, piano, organ, classical guitar and electric guitar, as well as the full range of orchestral instruments. Several orchestras, bands, ensembles and choirs meet regularly to rehearse and perform in public concerts.  Pupils who do not already play an instrument are encouraged to consider taking up an instrument and trial lessons can be arranged if required.

A number of Music Scholarships are available for pupils entering the Third Form as boarders.   Please contact the Director of Music, Mr C.B. Thompson for further details.
