The basic elements of the curriculum are:-
Aims
The pursuit of knowledge, skills, concepts and attitudes appropriate to the age, aptitude and ability of the children is implicit throughout these aims. Physical Education ProgrammeIn Form 3 pupils have one timetabled period per week. Courses taught include volleyball, body-conditioning and an introduction to the principles of fitness and weight training. In swimming the development of competence and stamina in the major strokes, the development of personal survival skills and water-polo form the major part of our teaching. Games ProgrammeAll pupils have two games sessions during the week plus a third on a Saturday afternoon.
There is a full range of fixtures against other schools and a comprehensive range of Inter-House Competitions. If required by the School all pupils must participate in team games. The Major team games are:Autumn Term - Boys’ Rugby Girls’ Hockey Spring Term - Boys’ Hockey Girls’ Netball Summer Term - Boys’ Cricket Girls’ Tennis and Athletics The Minor team games are:Summer Term – Boys’ Athletics and Tennis
Pupils are selected by the Head of Sports as to whether they play a Major or a Minor team sport. There are numerous opportunities for pupils to take part in Extra-Curricular activities on a club basis and these may include:- swimming (both club and beginners), water-polo, life-saving, ballet, badminton, cross country, dance, fencing, judo, tennis, trampolining, self defence, soccer, kite flying, golf, squash, rifle shooting, hockey. It is our intention that pupils should gain experience of a wide range of physical activities and develop a level of excellence in as many as possible. The opportunities at Dauntsey's are considerable and all pupils should do their best to make full use of the range of facilities and expertise on offer.
