All pupils in Form 3 have one timetabled period per week of Personal, Social and Health education, which is team taught by a male and female teacher. Learning is experimental rather than didactic, free expression of views is encouraged, while small group work of various types helps pupils to develop teamwork and communication skills. Three projects require students to work in small teams towards a common goal as they promote a ‘green’ product, make a presentation on behalf of a charity and participate in a mini-election. The students will re-visit topics introduced in earlier years, with a special focus on bullying, conflict resolution, self esteem and relationships. An analysis of the role of the media will also play an important part in the lessons.
