A brief description of the course followed in Years 10 & 11.

Year 10 – 1 period per week for half of the year

Each class has approximately 18 students .The emphasis is looking at how to respect yourself and other people. In the autumn term the classes look at the law and how it relates to young people, crime and punishment.  There are visits from two local magistrates who come into the lesson to explain their role in the Judicial System. Our Police Liaison Officer also conducts lessons.  The spring term concentrates on personal relationships and the rights and responsibilities that go with them. Role-play and discussion feature highly in this part of the course. The summer term looks at the establishment and value of good relationships in a wider context. This includes giving and receiving feedback, assertiveness and the principles of human rights.

The autumn term looks at what constitutes healthy living with an emphasis on physical health. The spring term consists of how to maintain good mental health. The summer term is spent discussing the concepts of spirituality, forgiveness, loss and includes a practical element of learning different relaxation techniques, in preparation for the impending public examinations.
