When you come to board at Dauntsey’s you
will find it exciting, challenging and fun. You will be part
of a lively and very friendly community, and we hope that you
will make the most of every opportunity, both inside and outside
the classroom.
Life at the Manor
You will begin boarding at the Manor, which
will become your second home during term time. As in your own
home there is a family atmosphere created by the house parents
and tutors who live there, together with their children and
assortment of pets. Your bedroom will be spacious and comfortable
with plenty of room for your belongings.
Boys and girls of your age live at the Manor
until they move into the upper school. It is an impressive yet
homely building set in 65 acres, mostly woodland, where you
can cycle, play a round of golf or even play tennis on floodlit
courts in the depth of winter!
Inside you will find ‘The Club’,
a well-equipped social area with a music system, table tennis,
air hockey and table football. There is a library, and in the
TV room, a DVD player and cinema surround sound system. You
can use computers to e-mail home and research your homework.
Every pupil in the school has a tutor. Tutors
keep a watchful and caring eye on you to ensure that you are
happy and getting the most out of Dauntsey’s. You can
ask for help with your homework and you can easily contact them
at other times. Of course, work is important and Dauntsey’s
has high academic standards. Lessons are taught by subject specialists.
You will find a new, purpose built Science building, a Music
school and fully equipped Art and Design Technology departments.
In Year 9 you will take part in ‘Moonrakers’
every Friday afternoon. This is a programme of outdoor activities
that includes survival skills, orienteering, river crossing
and conservation. In the summer term the activities change,
with horse riding, sailing and rifle shooting amongst the most
popular. For many the highlight is the six-day stay at the Outward
Bound Centre in Aberdovey.
You will have the opportunity to play the
major sports: rugby, hockey, netball, football, cricket, tennis,
swimming and athletics. There are also over 30 clubs offering
a variety of activities, including fencing, judo, chess, debating,
trampolining, squash, science, kite flying and beekeeping.
If you are a musician there are choirs,
orchestras and ensembles for you to join, whilst those wishing
to take up a new instrument will be encouraged to do so. The
nationally renowned Drama department has a varied programme
of productions each year; you could either be on stage or help
behind the scenes.
Dauntsey’s School has a uniquely friendly
atmosphere. You are welcome to visit, or even to come and stay
the night. You can have an individual guided tour, attend an
Open Morning or come to a Boarding Evening.
