Career in retailing, distribution and logistics, culminating in Chief Executive of the WH Smith Group, and subsequently Chairman. Other interests include non-executive directorships of Royal Mail Group PLC, Nationwide Building Society and Chairman of the Adult Learning Inspectorate. I also have interests in other charitable works including Vice Chairman of Kids Company and Chairman of the Community Foundation for Swindon and Wiltshire. My interests also include golf, art, music and the Greek Islands, and my 3 children have all benefited from the Dauntsey's experience.

Lady Benson

I have been a Governor of Dauntsey's School since 1977 and Vice Chairman since 1994. I have served, as one of the seven Mercers' Governors, on the Estates Committee but am now on the Finance and General Purposes Committee. I have been very much involved with Local Government and the voluntary sector, been Chairman of two national committees, and am still very much involved with voluntary work where I live in Salisbury. I have also been a Governor, and Chairman for 5 years, of a Prep School.

Mr R M Bernard

I joined as a Governor of Dauntsey's School in 2005 and as well as sitting on the Full Board I am also a member of the Finance and General Purposes Committee. I think Dauntsey's is a wonderful school and have a keen personal interest in its development as all four of my children have attended the school over the years.

I am CEO of Gcap Media plc, the UK's largest commercial radio company which owns Classic FM, 55 local commercial stations including London's Capital Radio and 100 DAB Digital radio stations. I am a keen five-a-side footballer and completed my fifth consecutive London Marathon in April - in quieter moments I collect copies of Wisden, the cricketing year book. I am married with four daughters and live in Marlborough

I taught science in England until my marriage, then spent the next 25 years living in 7 different countries and teaching business English. We have 3 children in their 20's all educated in the U.K. Now back permanently in England doing voluntary work with young offenders and learning Italian.

L Floyer-Acland

Mrs P L P Floyer-Acland

Educated at St. Paul's Girls' School. After gaining a B.Sc in Social Sciences from Edinburgh University I trained as a Probation Officer and worked as such for 20 years in London and Gloucestershire. I am married with one son (17). Currently I am on the Independent Monitoring Board at Leyhill Open Prison and a Freeman of the Mercers' Company. I also design and paint ceramic tiles when not gardening

Professor L M Harwood

I have been a Governor of Dauntsey's School since 1987 and serve on the Estates and Assets Committee. Since 1996 I have been Head of Organic Chemistry at Reading University where my work revolves around the development of new synthetic methods and their application to the synthesis of natural products. I hold various editorial appointments and I have published over 100 refereed research papers, 3 patents and authored or co-authored 4 textbooks

J Hedges

Mr J D Hedges

I am a Mercer appointed Governor and was Master of the Company in 1996/7. My career has been in broadcasting having worked for The British Forces Broadcasting Service in Cyprus, Libya and Germany where I was Programme Director. In the UK I have worked in commercial radio and latterly for the BBC, making programmes for schools and as a Radio 4 newsreader. I am now freelance, working on corporate and television documentaries. I live in South Herefordshire and my interests are music, drama and country pursuits, including fly fishing and walking.

Mr M J H Liversidge

I have been a Governor of Dauntsey's since 1995 and currently serve on the Estates and Assets Committee. I have worked in higher education since 1970 teaching art history at the University of Bristol, where I have been Dean of the Faculty of Arts (1996-2001) and Head of Department for twenty-one years. I have a particular interest in how learning and teaching in schools, universities and colleges are responding to the rapidly changing educational environment. Outside my university work I am a Trustee of the Theatre Royal in Bristol, and a member of the Campaign Board of Children's Hospice South West.

Mr A S Macpherson

I am one of the two Old Dauntseian representatives on the Governing body and was first appointed in 1999. I am currently Chairman of the Estates Committee, and also serve on the Finance and General Purposes and Audit Committees. I am a Chartered Accountant "by trade", and act as an itinerant Financial Director to several companies in the Swindon area. I also have an interest in Central Railway, a venture to build a new freight line between Liverpool and Lille in France. I am a magistrate on the Swindon Bench and a member of Wiltshire Police Authority. I run the "Filling Station", a charity in Swindon feeding and providing for the homeless in Swindon, and I am also a Trustee of the "Breakfast Club", another local charity for the homeless people. I sing with a Christian worship group called "New Creation", (www.christianworship.co.uk), and am an occasional member of Wroughton Choral Society. In the City, I am a member of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers and a past Master of the Guild of Mercers Scholars. I'm married to Sara Jane and have two adult children. My hobbies include gardening and watercolours.

R Matters

Major R P Matters

I live 10 minutes walk from the School and have been a Governor for 8 years, serving on the Estates and HR Committees. My responsibilities include informing the Parish Council of developments within the School that may impact on the local community, and also keeping the School informed of developments within the village. Having retired from the Army in late 2005 I now run a bookshop in Devizes called Reading Matters. I involve myself with many activities at School, especially in the outdoor pursuits field. I live in the village and my wife, Bonny, is the Manageress of the School Shop. We have 4 children of whom 3 are working and one, who greatly enjoyed her experience at Dauntsey's, is a student nurse.

Hon Mrs M Palmer

I have been a Governor at Dauntsey's School for 6 years, appointed by the Mercers' Company. I serve on the Estates Committee and the HR Committee. My recent background has been as a District Councillor in Hampshire and I am still a Parish Councillor. In 2005 I was appointed by the Countryside Agency to the South Downs Joint Committee, working in planning conservation and the management of nationally protected landscapes in the south of England. I am also active in the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE). As a mother of four and a grandmother of four, I am particularly interested in the education, development and welfare of young people.

I have been a Governor of Dauntsey's School for 9 years and serve on the Finance and General Purposes and Audit Committees. I am an OD (1964-71), live locally, am involved with various charities, am Chairman of the Mill School in Potterne and a Director of a company in Newbury. My son, Guy, was at Dauntsey's (1996-2003) and my daughter, Charlotte, is presently in the Sixth Form.

Brigadier M S Rutter-Jerome

I have been a Governor at Dauntsey's School for 2 years and serve on the Finance and General Purposes Committee and the Forward Planning Group. After 30 years in the Army, I was the Bursar and Clerk to the Governors at Cranleigh School for 7 years and for the past 4 years I have run the Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools, providing support, advice and training for Governors. I enjoy fly fishing and training springer spaniels and I seem to collect old cars.

Mrs L F Walsh Waring

Educated at Queenswood and St Paul's Girls' School, following which I read Geography at Manchester University. I subsequently qualified as a solicitor and spent several years practising in London, specialising in company and commercial law. I am currently a full time mother of a six year old. I am also a freeman of The Mercers' Company, who nominated me as a Governor of Dauntsey's. I joined the Governing Body in 2006 and sit on the Estates Committee.
