Performance

Ensembles and Choirs

All pupils undertaking singing or instrumental lessons at Dauntsey’s are expected to contribute to the rich fabric of co-curricular activities available to them. A full range of orchestras, ensembles, bands and choirs regularly rehearse and all musicians are welcome to participate as appropriate, thus developing their musical skills, knowledge and understanding.

Ensembles include:

Strings

  • Junior String Orchestra (For beginner to intermediate string players)
  • Three String Quartets (Coached by specialist string teachers)
  • Symphony Orchestra (For senior instrumentalists. Conducted by the Director of Music)
  • Lower String Orchestra (For intermediate to senior cello and bass players. Conducted by Mr Loveridge, Cello and Bass Teacher)

Woodwind/Brass

  • Clarinet and Saxophone Chamber Groups (Coached and conducted by Mrs Alford, woodwind specialist)
  • Double-Reed Ensemble (Coached and conducted by Mr Cipolla, woodwind specialist)
  • Flute Choir (Mixed ability flute consort)
  • Junior Concert Band (For all beginner to intermediate brass, woodwind and percussion players)
  • Senior Concert Band (Symphonic wind band, covering full range of repertoire from light to full film scores. Conducted by the Assistant Director of Music)
  • Brass Ensemble (Chamber group coached by Miss Jardine, brass specialist)
  • Recorder Consort

Choirs

  • Senior Choir (80-strong SATB choir, performing music for the school Chapel services as well as large-scale oratorios in concerts)
  • Lower Chamber Choir (60-strong upper-voices choir for 1st and 2nd Form pupils.)
  • SSA Choir (Auditioned choir for upper voices)
  • Boys’ Choir (Male voice choir performing a full range from pop to sacred music)
  • Choral Society (Choir for parents, friends, former pupils and members of the Wiltshire community. Recent performances include: Fauré Requiem, Haydn Nelson Mass, Verdi Requiem)

Other Groups

  • Dance Band (Covering a range of styles from swing-era to funk and contemporary covers. For senior instrumentalists. Coached and conducted by Miss Jardine)
  • Guitar Ensemble (A chamber classical guitar ensemble, coached by Mr Barwood)
  • Percussion Ensemble (Covering full range of orchestral percussion instruments and kit, performing an exciting range of music specially written and arranged for percussion. Conducted by percussion specialist Mr Stockley)

Concerts

Numerous concerts are presented, at varying levels of formality, throughout the year, enabling individuals and ensembles to have appropriate targets to work towards. An average of over two concerts per week are scheduled.
