A Retreat

Fifteen pupils have been preparing for their confirmation which will take place in Salisbury Cathedral in just under two weeks time. The Chaplain and Miss Gifford took many of them away during the weekend for what is known as a Retreat. This was a time just to step back from the routines and responsibilities of day-to-day life and, in the Chaplain's words "to concentrate for a while on the spiritual dimension of life". The retreat began with an inspiring tour (literally "in the spire") of Salisbury Cathedral, climbing stairs to a height of 220 feet just to the base of the spire, before returning to ground level where they enjoyed cakes from the Refectory and then attended Choral Evensong. The pupils spent the night at a seventeenth century retreat house in Warminster where they enjoyedmore wonderful food, a meditation led by Miss Gifford and thoughtful discussions.
