Duke of Edinburgh Bronze - Assessed Expedition
Easter holidays 2010
A record 64 Fifth Form Bronze D of E participants have just completed their Assessed Expeditions. This is one of the largest D of E groups.
Trial Expeditions were on the Isle of Purbeck last summer so this time we kept it closer to home; starting at Barbary Castle and ending at Avebury with two days walking and a night camping in between.
43 headed off just before the end of the spring term. Despite facing torrential rain, spirits remained high and our 7 groups coped with soggy tents and muddy boots.
21 pupils enjoyed blue skies and sunshine just before the start of the summer term however the night time temperature did drop to freezing and some realised they didn’t have quite enough layers.
A variety of boil in the bag delights were brewed up over the camp stoves; it seems everything tastes good when you are tired and very hungry!
Each group had to plan an “Aim” as part of their Expedition; we wait with anticipation to see the results of research into “local historical sites”, “Man’s impact on the environment” and “ Roadkill” to name a few.
With such high numbers, School has successfully used the services of A-Z Expeditions . They have very experienced staff and looked after our participants very well.
