Professor Ronald Hutton: 'The Politics of the Common People 1580-1640'
| On Wednesday 23rd September, Sixth Form Historians spent the afternoon with renowned medieval historian, Professor Ronald Hutton, from the University of Bristol. He delivered a dynamic and enlighteninglecture on Tudor Rebellionswhich provided a useful and interesting insight into this topic, and which will enhancetheir studies in this area. Later that evening, Professor Hutton delivered another lecture, open to the wider community as well as pupils, entitled "The Politics of the Common People 1580 - 1640". Bringing together evidence collected over 40 years, Prof Hutton provided an overall picture on whythe common people of Elizabethan and Early Stuart England put up with a political system which denied them the vote and an economic system by which the rich took most of the profits of their labour. |
The next History Society Lecture, also open to the public, will take place on Friday 27th November at 7.30pm in the Library. Professor Steve Hindle (University of Warwick) will be talking on "Riotous Affray and Murder in Elizabethan England".
