Mums Cyle to Paris
|
Congratulations to Dauntsey's mothers Sara Wardlaw and Janine Gosling, who cycled from London to Paris in June and, so far, have raised over £2,500 for The Hugo Halkes Charitable Trust. They would like to thank all members of the community who kindly sponsored them and have sent in the following report:
"We experienced a long first day around 86 miles over the South Downs to Portsmouth, however, despite predications of thunderstorms, we managed to dodge all the showers and arrived safely for the overnight ferry. The next day we encountered the Normandy Bridge out of Le Harve: It was very steep, windy and scary to cycle! The sun shone for the rest of that day ( 33 degrees!) and the next day, as we followed the Course of the River Seine towards Paris. We did mange a quick stop at the Monet gardens but only made a fleeting visit to the shop as the queue was too long for our tight schedule. We eventually hit the outskirts of Paris and safely navigated our way through the traffic to catch our first glimpse of the Arc de triomphe. We had arrived and we were elated! Incredibly, the nine of only experienced one puncture and one minor fall between us!" |
"We are very grateful to all the Dauntsey's parents who sponsored Janine andSarah on their epic cycle ride to Paris to raise funds for Hugo's charity, which supports a variety of good causes for young people. It was very generous of them and all of you. The fabulous amount of money raised will be put to good use".
