Ronnie Scott's Live Jazz at Dauntsey's

On the evening of Saturday 8th November, a large audience of Sixth Form pupils, parents and staff were treated to a superb night of exceptional jazz.

As guests sat at their tables and were served by members of the 17 Club, they enjoyed a fabulous set by the Dauntsey's School Dance Band. All 31 musicians, under the expert conducting of Mrs Rosanne Jardine, played a number of memorable dance and big band numbers, with Anais Seager, Archie Campbell and India Block accompanying on vocals for some of the songs.

A delicious supper was served after the Dance Band performance, after which the headline invitation band came on stage. This was the first year this particular line-up of jazz musicians have come to Dauntsey's and the audience was full of praise for the entertaining performance and high calibre of musicianship of the band: Ian Shaw (vocals), Guy Barker (trumpet), Mark Fletcher (drums), Janette Mason (piano) and Thad Kelly (bass). Ian Shaw, who entertained with his wit and excellent interpretation of songs which have been sung at the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club over the last 50 years, was voted "Best Jazz Vocalist" at the BBC Jazz Awards in 2007 and 2004. Guy Barker is, arguably, the best English playing trumpeter and is a composer and song writer in his own right. These prestigious musicians have played with jazz legends including Ronnie Scott, Dizzie Gillespie, John Etheridge and David Gilmour, and it is no wonder that the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Evening at Dauntsey's has been billed a great success.
