National Schools' Team Tennis
Team wins first round of South West Regional Competition
On Thursday 8th October, the Dauntsey's Second Form Boy's Tennis Team won their second round knockout match in the South West regional competition of the National Schools Team Tennis competition. They qualified for the competition by virtue of winning the Year 8 Wiltshire Division of the Aegon Team tennis Schools competition at the end of the summer term.
They played at home against Bournemouth School, a 2000 pupil Grammar School with a very strong tennis reputation. After the regulation singles and doubles sets were played, the teams were level on sets (three all), and on games won (23 all). Ed G & Ed T were then required to play a deciding tie break - against a pair that they had just lost to 6-2. The boys played with great determination and judgement, and demonstrated some excellent tennis which won them the match - and the fixture - by 10-8.
The team now goes through to the third round, further than any Dauntsey's team has been in ten years. This is especially impressive given that the boys are playing in a division against boys a year older than them.
