Earlier this week we were delighted to present a cheque for more than £21,000 to the Swindon branch of The CALM Trust – Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement.
An impressive £7,700 of this total came from sponsorship of those pupils who took part in the grueling Devizes to Westminster canoe race over the Easter weekend. The remainder of the money was raised through a series of events at Dauntsey’s, including some 90 pupils taking part in a 24-hour runathon which contributed more than £1,000.
Malaria No More
Each September, the entire school community votes to adopt a charity for the forthcoming academic year. For the 2015/16 academic year, Dauntsey’s has selected to support ‘Malaria No More’, a UK-based charity determined to end the world’s oldest killer disease and stop children dying from malaria. It campaigns in the UK for support and funds malaria programmes in Africa that help prevent, diagnose and treat malaria.
Malaria No More is championed by Alex Carter, an Old Dauntesian who contracted a near fatal strain of malaria in 2008.
