Jolie Brise Wins Tall Ships Race 2015

Jolie Brise is overall winner of Tall Ships Races 2015 - Congratulations to skipper Toby Marris and crews.

The first crew of Dauntsey’s pupils joined Jolie Brise in Belfast early in July to race with the Tall Ships fleet through the Outer Hebrides and Shetland Islands to Ålesund in Norway, 60 nautical miles south of the Arctic Circle. This proved to be a challenging race with spells of gale force winds and mountainous seas of over five metres high.

After a crew change in Ålesund, all aboard Jolie Brise,  enjoyed a more relaxing cruise in company to Kristiansand, where she picked up an award for the youngest crew.

Another crew change and a race saw Jolie Brise sailing out in to the North Sea and back through the Skagerrak, ending up in Åalborg in Denmark.

At the end of race  'Jolie Brise'  had won 2nd in class and 3rd overall in race leg one, and 3rd in class and 4th overall for race leg two. The combined results made her and Dauntsey’s School 1st in class and 1st overall for the whole of Tallships 2015,  beating 77 other ships from all over the world.

The next highlight of the summer sailing season is Sail Amsterdam which starts on 19th August when  Jolie Brise will join the world famous Parade of Sail up the North Sea Canal to Amsterdam, followed by a meander home to the Hamble visiting Belgium, France and the Channel Islands en route, in time for the start of term on the 4th September.
