Over the exeat weekend, our Upper Sixth A Level German pupils spent a busy but fascinating few days in Berlin.
Superb guided tours of the Stasi prison at Hohenschönhausen, the Stasi headquarters and the Palace of Tears and visits to the DDR Museum and the Wall Memorial gave them an excellent, but at times horrifying, insight into life in the former GDR.
Miles were covered on foot, taking in the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, the site of Hitler’s Bunker and many other famous historical sites. The history was complemented by Kaffee und Kuchen at the top of the TV tower (despite the fact that they were sitting in thick fog!), a cinema trip, two chocolate filled visits to the Ritter Sport shop and time at the beautiful Christmas markets.
It really was an action packed, but fabulous 72 hours!
