Dance Show 2016

Last week, over 200 pupils took part in the annual Dance Show and, as always, it was an evening full of energy and excitement.

Pupils prepared for the show during the Autumn Term both in lessons and in their extra-curricular clubs. The show presented a huge variety of dance styles and really showed off the talents and versatility of our pupils. The audience enjoyed contemporary, musical theatre, tap and street dance to name but a few.

This year’s show worked around the theme of ‘Stories’ and some dances took inspiration from classics like ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Oliver Twist’, while others looked to more modern books like ‘Gangster Granny’ and ‘The Maze Runner’. Parents, teachers and pupils alike were amazed by the enthusiasm of all the dancers and the professionalism with which the Lower School took to the stage.

Particularly spectacular performances were given by the Jazz club with their beautiful performance inspired by 'Snow White' and the penultimate number of the show ‘Aladdin’, which amazed the audience with a variety of magic tricks. A special mention must also go to G.N.I (Girls Not Invited), our all boy street dance group, who gave their debut performance and completely blew the audience away.

There was a real buzz in the audience this year, who were particularly supportive and it was fantastic to see so many pupils up on stage having so much fun!

More to come in 2016

Looking ahead to the rest of 2016, many of our dancers are looking forward to competing in a variety of dance and cheerleading competitions, kicking off at the ‘Spirit Sensation’ event in Worcester on 7th February (organised by the British Cheerleading Association). Our senior dancers are currently working on a dance show based on the story of Moulin Rouge which they will perform in April and the anticipated highlight of the year will be our staging of ‘Billy Elliot’ in December.
