Winchester Cathedral Evensong
On Wednesday 20 January, the Senior Choir travelled to Winchester Cathedral to sing Evensong.
John Ireland’s Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis were partnered with Psalm 104 and we ended the service with a beautiful rendition of Harold Darke’s setting of In The Bleak Midwinter, including solos from Lorna Frankel and Harry Gooch.
It was also lovely to give an outing to the responses written for Dauntsey’s School by Bernard Rose. Well done to all who sang. I am pleased to inform you that we have been invited back to perform in future services at Winchester and other Cathedrals and Abbeys as a result of this performance. Thanks go to Shean Bowers, who came down from Bath Abbey to be our organist for the evening. We look forward to working with him on other musical projects.
Following all the hard work, the evening was rounded off by a lovely pizza for all. Thank you also to Mr Sims and Mr Irving for their assistance with the event. I would also like to thank Winchester for allowing those members of SSA who were able to join us for an impromptu performance of the Biebl Ave Maria before the service. The near darkness of the setting added a special ambience to the performance.
