Mercers' Lecture Review: Sir John Sawers
On Thursday 23 February, the first Mercer’s Lecture of this half term was given by Sir John Sawers, the former head of MI6.
Not only did the discussion beforehand and the lecture itself provide a fascinating, if slightly perturbing, analysis of the current world situation, but Sir John’s impressive ability to answer any question and recall specific details made him a remarkable speaker.
His final message, that
we can and must face up to new challenges in this century, was both inspiring
and thought provoking and overall, it was a hugely enjoyable and interesting
evening- thank you to everyone involved in organising it!
Alice Walton-Knight, Upper Sixth
