A remarkable victory at Windsor

Many congratulations to our Equestrian Team, Ophelia Straker, Amber Fletcher, Lauren Dallison and Beth McNamara who pulled off a remarkable win at the NSEA show jumping championship at Home Park, Windsor this weekend.

Taking place in the midst of the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations there was quite a buzz around Windsor and the setting was impressive with the Castle as a back-drop.

We didn't actually see her, but I'm pretty sure the Queen had her telescope trained on the Frogmore Arena.”

Twenty two school teams out of around 200 qualified for this event from all over the country. Each rider completed one round with the first six fences set at 90cm before progressing to the timed section of the course consisting of six fences set at 95cm. The teams aim was to jump clear but they were prepared to take a few risks to get a good result.

The favourites, King’s Of Wessex and Lady Manners School rode first and both teams rode fast, clear rounds setting quite a tough target to beat. The Dauntsey’s team were the 11th team to ride the course. The team stuck to their plan and all four girls rode brilliantly and jumped clear rounds. They had to a nervous wait for 11 other teams to jump but at the end of the day were delighted to finish faster than any other team to come out on top!

Their four wonderful horses were cloaked in the finest Windsor Horse Show rugs for the prize-giving ceremony and after receiving their rosettes and two laps of honour the team were accompanied back to the lorry park by a smartly uniformed and mounted Queen's Guard.
