Athletics – Lutra Shield

On Saturday 16 April the Senior Boy's Athletics Team travelled to the Yeovil Arena to compete in the Lutra Shield. Eight Schools had been invited and this year we were competing against Milllfield, Wellington, Sherborne, Bryanston, Taunton, Blundells and Kingswood.

The afternoon started well with Dan Hammond and Tom Sheinman coming 3rd in their hurdles heats and Ryan Yip running brilliantly to win his heat. The track events saw some exceptional performances throughout the day with Callum Short once again superb winning the A string 400 metres race and the 1500 metres. Captain Oliver Shad was exceptional throughout the day winning the A string 800 metre race and his 400 metre heat, he also ran brilliantly to come second in the 200 metres. Elliot Lassiter won his 1500 metre race with other athletes picking up great points. In the field events our jumpers also went really well. Dan Hammond and Tom Sheinman winning their triple jump events and Callum Short winning the Long Jump. Hugh Jacobs won his javelin event and Torran Green won his high jump heat.

At the halfway point we found ourselves leading the event overall just 4 points ahead of Millfield and 6 points ahead of Wellington. By the end we had pulled clear of Wellington, but Millfield just pulled away to win. It was a superb team performance and we finished runners up out of the eight schools.
