Dauntsey’s Rifles Club News

Isle of Man Shooting Festival

For the third successive year, a squad of nine pupils recently spent 5 days in the Isle of Man to compete in the Easter Shooting Festival.

This was an open competition for adults and juniors firing 120 rounds over two days. Jacob McBride top scored for Dauntsey’s with and impressive average of 590.95 out of a maximum of 654 which saw him win a bronze medal for third place in the Junior Open Competition. Among the Dauntsey’s team, Ella Tew was the next best performer averaging an impressive 589.35. However, all nine Dauntsey’s pupils shot extremely well, achieving a really high standard of overall performance with some very consistent shooting under strict competition rules.

Special mention also goes to Ed Muir who won the team Full Bore pistol competition scoring a very impressive 385 out of 500 for a free standing 25 metre shoot with a .38 Smith and Wesson full bore pistol.

All in all, the trip was a great success and the pupils enjoyed field archery and abseiling alongside the .22 rifle and full bore pistol shooting.
