Barron Prize for Sixth Form solo musicians.

Many congratulations to Matthew Fisher on his success last term in the Baron prize.

His rendition of Rachmaninov Preludes won the praise of the adjudicator, David Heyes, in a highly competitive evening of stunning performances. The audience was treated to a wonderful evening of outstanding performances from our six, Sixth Form finalists.

Recitals featured music by Bach, Chopin, Brahms, Schubert, Rachmaninov, Webb and Barat. All performances were technically extremely demanding, but were presented in a mature, professional manner and with a level of musicality that belied the young age of the performers. Many performed from memory - a real challenge given the complexity of the repertoire. All competitors are outstanding ambassadors for their instruments and provide wonderful role models for younger students as they develop.

I would like to thank all the participants for their dedication they show to their instruments whilst studying for the forthcoming A-Level exams. The hours they have spent striving for perfection as performers was appreciated by all assembled.

National Youth Choir

Four of our pupils have achieved the great accolade of membership of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain.

This outstanding choir accepts students from all over the country. The standard required for entry is very high so for our three students, Alex Clothier, Ben Harding, Isobel O’Brien  and Francesca McClean, the prospect of singing with this ensemble was both exciting and daunting.

The repertoire included music from Britten’s Festival Te Deum, Taverner’s Dum Transisset Sabbatum and the amazing Spem In Alium by Tallis which has forty independent voice parts! A week of intensive rehearsals and workshops lead up to the final concert in the Albert Hall. The performance was spectacular and all three pupils enjoyed the very appreciative full house audience. I would recommend the ensemble to all our singers at Dauntsey’s. Many of you are already capable of entering this choir and younger students should look at the training choir they offer to help prepare for the more advanced group.

See their twitter feed NYCGB@nycgb for more reviews and information. Courses run during each major holiday.
