Primary Schools' Cricket Tournament
The Dauntsey’s Sports Outreach Programme involves members of the Dauntsey’s sports staff travelling to primary schools in the community, providing regular, hourly timetabled sports coaching sessions to over 300 children. This term’s Cricket coaching culminated in the Primary Schools' Tournament on Saturday 24 June.
Hosted by Dauntsey’s, the tournament enabled over 140 primary school pupils to show off their newly learned skills and talents in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry. Throughout the morning, 16 teams played; 2 teams from each school which were split into an A and B division.
Five Lanes were the stand out School winning the B division and runners up in the A division. They were also the overall Tournament winners. Urchfont won the A division and St Thomas à Beckett, Tilshead the runners up in the B division.
Special mention to Mrs Debbie Alvis, the Five Lanes teacher/coach, who has worked tirelessly with her childrens’ sport over the years so their success was lovely to see.
The Headmaster presented the trophies. Thanks to Steve Challis and his staff for fantastic pitches and Lloyd Childs for providing lunches for all the children and their parents after the Tournament.
The 8 participating schools were as follows:
Dauntsey’s Aided Primary School (West Lavington), Five Lanes Primary School (Worton), Holy Trinity Primary School (Great Cheverell), St Barnabas Primary School (Market Lavington), St Josephs Primary School (Devizes), St Thomas à Beckett Primary School (Tilshead), Urchfont Primary School, and Wansdyke School.
