Confirmation in Salisbury Catherdal

SalisburyCathedral.jpg

On the first Saturday of term, 12 pupils were confirmed by the Bishop of Salisbury, The Rt Revd David Stancliffe,in Salisbury Cathedral. The drama and atmosphere was enhanced by the service: beginning in darkness, and gradually coming into light, to represent the presence of God being amongst those who were confirmed, and their families, friends and all who had come from School to support them. The service included a number of short addresses explaining the significance of the Christian journey that leads from baptism to confirmation. One pupil was baptised in the cathedral's new font before also being confirmed at the crossing of the cathedral, beneath the spire. The service was the culmination of a term's preparation, as well as the encouragement of the pupils' families and their own decision to take this next important step in their lives.

We very much look forward to welcoming Bishop David to preach at a school Candlemas service at All Saints' Church in the village on 8th February. We will also have Bishop Michael Doe of USPG to be our preacher for the Commemoration Service and the Bishop of Ramsbury to lead a full school service later in the term. We very much hope that pupils will be encouraged and inspired to value the place of faith at the centre of their lives, just as it seeks to remainat the heart of the School's ethos.
