Dauntsey's School was proud to welcome Lord Butler on Friday 13th March in the final lecture of this year's Mercers' Lecture series. Speaking to an audience just short of 500, Lord Butler gave the most impressive address to the School which proved memorable for all who attended.

Speaking on 'Why we invaded Iraq', he cited an impressive array of reasons, notably Blair's personal conviction that the war was necessary, while providing a detailed account of the events that led up to the invasion. His knowledge was staggering and the audience clung to his every word.

The Lecture had followed a paper which Lord Butler had given to The Head Master's Essay Society. Entitled, 'Political Power in Britain', members were given a thorough insight into the all-important job of being Head of the British Civil Service; with superb questions to follow, the members felt inspired with one remarking that he now wished to be a civil servant.
