Rockfest

Electrifying performances from pupils

On Sunday 1st February, the Memorial Hall vibrated with the electrifying sounds of the 2009 Rockfest. A large and appreciative audience of pupils and staff gathered to support the seven rock bands and one soloist, who put themselves forward for this year's competition. The adjuticator of the event was Peter Lamb, well known record producer and studio owner.

The Renegades of Funk started the evening off with an exciting performance, followed by the newly formed Strumaphonics (all members of whom are in the Lower School) whose use of cello and electric violin produced an exciting and innovative sound. Hannah P sang two of her own very powerful songs, and Help Me, Lucio! also entertained the crowd with two of their own eclectic pieces. Jamigo and Phase Two followed, to much acclaim. Track 12 dazzled the spectators with some excellent singing and some very sophisticated and tight musicianship, and finally The John Davies Experience's two numbers finished the show on a high with more skilled playing and strong vocals from Johnny R.

Peter Lamb was hugely complimentary about all the acts, commenting on each performance individually. It was clear that he was very impressed by the quality and variety of musicianship on display, especially given the ages of the performers. He finally declared Track 12 the overall winners, and the Runners Up prize went to Strumaphonics.

Congratulations to all those who took part, and the many staff and pupils who helped organise what was a great event.
