Chicago - December 2009
This year's musical production Chicago was performed over five nights in the first week of December, and was undoubtedly one of the most ambitious tackled by the School. Expectations were high, and tickets for the show had sold out within a few weeks of being released. With a cast of 100 and a full orchestra telling the murderous story of Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, 2700 spectators were treated to some exceptional music, singing, acting and dancing. All the leading and supporting roles sang and acted with great flair, producing a spectacular show, mixing comedy with high-spirited drama, and the cast pulled off a polished and sophisticated performance of what remains one of the most stylish musicals on the London stage. Former Managing Director of Delfont Mackintosh Theatres,George Biggs, saw the show on the closing night and hailed it "outstanding" and worthy of any West End stage.
Earlier this term, pupils from all year groups were involved in two greatly contrasting productions:Delirium and The Dream Play. Delirium was a radical reinterpretation of the Brothers Karamazov and The Dream Play led the audience at the Manor on a surreal journey of the subconscious. The coming months offer more productions, with further details available at www.dramaatdauntseys.net
