DSPA Travel Scholarship
Each year the Dauntsey's School Parents' Association (DSPA) awards a Travel Scholarship of up to £1000. Open to all Sixth Form pupils, six candidates applied this year by submitting an outline plan and then making a presentation to an elected panel of parents. The presentaitons were of a very high standard, and were all very well researched. The DSPA awarded joint prizes of £600 each to the two pupils pictured above. One is planning to travel by road and rail across the USA, from New York to Los Angeles, following the route taken by the writers of the Beat Generation. The other winner is planning to live and work in a very poor island community of Fiji, teaching the locals, amongst other things, how to play cricket and using his Theatre Studies skills to help them to put on a small drama production linked to bible stories. Congratulations to them both.
Last year's winner, Sasha Stowe, will soon be setting off to study the effects of the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, travelling through the country by bus, train, bicycle, boat and elephant.
