The History Society Presents
New Thinking on the Russian Revolution: Towards the Centenary
Professor Christopher Read, University of Warwick, visited the School on Thursday 28th January to deliver two outstanding papers to the History Department. Speaking to members of the Lower Sixth in the late afternoon on "The Decline of the Tsarism", followed by a lecture to the History Society in the evening on "The New Thinking on the Russian Revolution", the audiences took much from the experience of meeting such an eminent scholar of Russian History.
The History Department is eagerly looking forward to the next History Society lectures in the Summer Term by Professor David Loades, on Henry VIII, and Professor William Doyle, who will be speaking on the French Revolution and the Rule of Napoleon.

Since the actual events themselves, the Russian Revolution has been not just an event but also a symbol. Now that the system that emerged has been replaced, are historians able to get a more objective, less politicised and more historical view of the period? What are the main directions of new research and new thinking as we approach the centenary? These are the main questions that will be the focus of Professor Read's talk.
