Reeling for Charity
|
The School's bi-annual Almost-Burns Night Reels' evening on Saturday 23rd January saw the Memorial Hall filled to capacity as 220 Sixth Formers, their parents and staff negotiated their way through the intracacies of such classic Highland Reels as the Dashing White Sergeant, the Virginia reel, the Eightsome and the Strip the Willow. The evening began with a delicious traditional haggis supper, with the first haggis being ceremoniously piped in by a First Form pupil who played the bagpipes to great acclaim. Thereafter followed three hours of highly energetic dancing, driven on by the superb playing of the George Buchanan Dance Band and guided by the unfailingly patient and good-humoured Legh Walker, whose ability to steer such a huge number of novices through so many Reels earned the admiration of all! In traditional fashion, the night ended with a Reels' Breakfast at midnight - more than deserved after an evening of great exertion! As well as being enormous fun, the event raised a significant sum for Nightingale's Project Trust, the School's chosen charity for the 2009-2010, and it was a great pleasure to see so many Sixth Formers and their parents Reeling for such a good cause! | |
