Athletics - Lutra Shield
On Saturday 1st May the Boys' Athletics team travelled to the Yeovil Arena to once again compete in the Lutra Shield Competition. We have had good success in recent years, having won the trophy once and being placed Runners Up twice. The event was attended by 8 schools, all bringing their best athletes in the hope of winning the competition. The schools entered this year were Dauntsey's, Millfield, Bishop's, Taunton, Wellington, Bryanston, Sherborne and Blundells.
It was clear from the outset that Millfield were going to win the event comfortably, but the fight for second place was going to be more competitive than ever before.
Dauntseys's started well on the track with good performances in the hurdles from Laurence Jackson, Ewan Duffin and Will Ellis. Ewan Duffin struggled through the afternoon with injury, but should be commended for showing exceptional character in continuing to pick up major points in everything he did. There were other good performances from Rory Collett, Will Mister and Jeremy Smith on the track. George Duffield and James Long performed very well in the field. The surprise of the day was Alex Kendall who came second in the high jump competition, jumping 1m 70cm.
The team effort was tremendous and all athletes consistently picked up second or third place out of the 8 competitors. Going into the relays Dauntsey's were just placed second. The relays were excellent and 2 second places and a third saw us once again finish runners up to Millfield out of the 8 competing schools.
Well done to everyone involved.
