Congratulations to the Sixth Former pictured, who has been awarded this year's ODA Richard Sandbrook Award by the Old Dauntseians' Association. She will be spending three weeks with Tethy's Research Institute onboard a research boat in the Ligurian Sea, Italy, collecting and analysing data on cetaceans, particularly fin whales, sperm whales, Risso's dolphins and striped dolphins. Research carried out will include photographic and photo-identification techniques, conducting visual and acoustic surveys, remote underwater tracking, skin swabbing, faecal sampling, behavioural sampling and analysing respiration patterns. The Award was for £1,500 and the winner will give a presentation to pupils at Dauntsey's next year following the completion of this project. |
