Tour of Classical Greece
During the Easter holiday a party of 21 pupils and three staff visited the sites of classical Greece. Blessed with good weather, the trip was an enjoyable and valuable experience for all those who went and the ancient ruins looked their best.
The party visited the Acropolis in Athens, home of the Parthenon, the great temple built in honour of Athene, and then went on to Delphi, the religious and spiritual centre of ancient Greece, Olympia, the site of the Olympic Games and the location of the great temple of Zeus, and Pylos, home of the Greek hero Nestor. The pupils also visited Mycenae, home of the leader of the expedition to Troy, Agamemnon, Mistras, the Byzantine city which overlooks the plains of ancient Sparta, and the great theatre of Epidaurus.
A great time was had by all and the pupils really appreciated the opportunity to see the places they study in the course of their classical studies.
