Primary Schools' Hockey Festival 2017
The Dauntsey’s Sports Outreach Programme involves members of the Dauntsey’s sports staff travelling to primary schools in the community, providing regular, hourly timetabled sports coaching sessions to over 300 children. This term’s hockey coaching culminated in the Primary Schools' Mini-Hockey Festival on Saturday 18 November.
Hosted by Dauntsey’s, the festival enabled over 150 primary school pupils to show off their newly learned skills and talents in an atmosphere of friendly rivalry. Throughout the morning, 17 teams played in an A and B division, with over 100 goals being scored.
Congratulations to Wansdyke who won the A division in a close game umpired by our Hockey Professional, Mr. Devney. DAPS won the B division, with Wansdyke being the overall winners of the festival. It was especially pleasing to see Wansdyke record their first success. St. Josephs enjoyed one of their best Tournaments and came very close to winning the trophy. Mr. Lascelles, the Headmaster, presented the team members with the Sports Outreach Trophy at the prize ceremony.
The nine participating schools were as follows:
Dauntsey’s Academy Primary School (West Lavington), Five Lanes Primary School (Worton), Holy Trinity Primary School (Great Cheverell), Rowde Primary School, St Barnabas Primary School (Market Lavington), St Josephs Primary School (Devizes), St Thomas à Beckett Primary School (Tilshead), Urchfont Primary School, and Wansdyke School.
